Since attending the Mosaic Art School in Ravenna, Italy I’ve specialised in making reproductions of Greek and Roman mosaics. Early on in my career I was commissioned by the Archbishop of Tarragona in Spain to make copies of 4 early Christian mosaics for the new Biblical Museum in Tarragona.Various other private commissions followed this and then I was asked by The British Museum to run a workshop as part of the ‘Hadrian, Empire and Conflict’ exhibition.
This has lead onto more teaching and a lot of my time is devoted to researching better ways to communicate the skills I have learnt over the past 8 years. Roman mosaics are technically quite simple but there are certain rules which need to be followed and these can be seen in every piece. It’s these rules that differentiate mosaics of the classical world from modern artwork.
