Mesh problems

Here’s a posting from the Trade Tile Association on the use of mesh backed mosaics. It’s been covered before but it’s worth highlighting. Obviously they have commercially produce mosaic sheets in mind as trying to conform with no more than 25% of the back of each tile covered by glue/mesh is nigh on impossible with 10mm tesserae. If you want to use mesh then the best option really has to be the Streuter mesh.
I know some people talk about using the thinset to attach the tesserae to the mesh but I really don’t know enough about that. I can’t see that you’d be able to transport it too far without it cracking.

Here’s a photo of the back of a mesh mosaic that I had in the workshop. Until they get on to the companies that do that sort of thing I can’t see how it will change.
