Roman mosaic portraits, piece for piece copies

Roman mosaic portraits, piece for piece copies

What I’ve been up to this evening, tracing out the master copies for the piece for piece portrait mosaic kits.
Tracings are made of the original Roman portraits and with the use of a sheet of carbon paper these can then be transferred onto the cement fibre board.
Using either the flat or riven cut 4mm tesserae you can then make an exact copy using the direct method. What I like about this is that you can be a complete beginner yet you’ll still be able to complete an accurate copy from scratch.
The kits will contain the boards, tracing paper, carbon sheet, image of the original, tesserae, instruction sheet and glue.
I’ll post up some pics once I’ve completed a couple of them.
